Narcotic sniffer dog helps Vizag police seize 30 kg ganja at railway station

In a significant drug bust, the Vizag City Police seized approximately 30 kg of ganja at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station with the assistance of a narcotic sniffer dog. The operation, carried out on Monday, was conducted at the station’s first entrance.
The city’s police force has been actively involved in a crackdown on narcotics, under the guidance of City Police Commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi. As part of these efforts, regular inspections are being carried out in key areas like the RTC complex, beach road, and the railway station.
On Monday, during a coordinated inspection between the city’s dog squad, the city task force, and the Fourth Town Police, the sniffer dog, Caesar, detected the hidden cannabis. The cannabis was then seized and handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation.
Bagchi praised the efforts of the officers involved, especially the dog squad, led by handler Ram Prasad, and Caesar for their key role in identifying the illicit drugs.
Earlier in the day, the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district police deployed drones to conduct an extensive anti-ganja operation, identifying and destroying 3.55 acres of cannabis plantations across 20 locations in Degalarai village, Solabham panchayat, and G Madugula Mandal in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the police, 19 persons were identified for cultivating cannabis, with legal actions underway against those implicated.
ASR police have already registered 141 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, seizing over 11,618 kg of dry ganja and 3.05 kg of hashish oil. This has led to 563 individuals being booked, 390 arrests, and the issuance of 61 suspect sheets to curb habitual offences.
